May 23, 2011 - PRLog -- Compliance Officials were briefed that the former President of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), Ambassador Samuel W. Lewis, called on Congress to fund the congressionally created organization. This organization has long supported international conflict prevention, management, and resolution.

Officials from Knight Investments LLC noted that the recent uprisings in the middle east had significantly contributed to the push for peace, and such a push by the Ambassador did not seem untimely.

"A time of war is not a time to eliminate an institution that is training conflict managers in Iraq, Afghanistan and all over the world," Lewis said, after visiting the new headquarters of USIP. "America needs this nonpartisan center of international engagement which is positioning our country as a leader in making peace.  De-funding it sends the entirely wrong signal."

Compliance Officials have stated that long have government grant programs been available to the general public to help in these peace endeavors; however, seldom were these appropriations publicized. Officials stated that they hoped with recent USIP pushes, the private sector would become more aware.

Lewis served as the President of USIP for five years beginning in 1987, three years after President Ronald Reagan signed the legislation creating USIP into law.  The USIP has since undergone a number of changes but their mission has remained the same. Compliance activities at Knight Investments LLC hoped to lessen the burden for those seeking to assist the USIP'a mission, and stated that underwriting officials would be available to consult those seeking to qualify for engagement with the USIP.

Senior Regulatory Officials commended Ambassador Lewis on his service. The Ambassador's service continued until 1992 when he took over as Director of the Department of State’s Policy Planning Staff.  With 31 years of service as a career diplomat, Ambassador Lewis had tours of duty in Italy, Brazil, Afghanistan, Israel and Washington.  He served as Ambassador to Israel for eight years under Presidents Carter and Reagan, a period spanning the negotiation of the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty and the 1982 Lebanon War.
