The GHD will coordinate move-ins, move-outs, unit inspections and maintenance, and is the on-site resource person for operation of the residences. The GHD is also responsible for policy enforcement and the implementation of administrative procedures, as needed.
Each suite will offer University-provided furniture . Interior cosmetic renovations including new paint, carpets, and cabinetry are in progress. Additional exterior lighting has been added to the building along the Fourth Street sidewalk, and other façade improvements are in progress, including all-new windows and a new canopy.
Basic utilities and Wi-fi internet service are included in the students’ rental housing fee. Cable TV and phone hook-ups are available; but must be paid directly by the student occupants to the service providers. A shared laundry room with card-operated machines will be provided for residents’ use. An additional common area will be available for the students’ enjoyment. Students living at Residences on Market will continue to have access to parking at the University’s Academic Center.
“Harrisburg University recognized the demand of prospective and current students for a convenient quality housing option, and are pleased that the owner of 335 Market Street was willing to enter into an agreement with the University to be able to offer that solution to our growing student population,”
The building, formerly known as the Governor Hotel, is owned by Riverview Manor Associates, LP, who re-named it Residences on Market. Residences’ principal, Dan Deitchman, states that: “When we acquired this building late last year, we looked forward to renovating another historic property, similar to our very successful Riverview Manor project along Front Street. Recently, the opportunity arose to work with HU and we are pleased have the opportunity to assist them and to be part of the revitalization of downtown Harrisburg.”
