Lighter and darker Colour shades used in smaller and larger bathrooms

Choosing bathroom or kitchen tiles doesn’t have to be a daunting task but there are literally thousands to choose from in terms of materials, styles, colours and designs.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - May 23, 2011 - Choosing bathroom or kitchen tiles doesn’t have to be a daunting task but there are literally thousands to choose from in terms of materials, styles, colours and designs. Always maintain your own style and be true to your personal preferences and one of the first aspects of any tiling job is to first establish what tile material you are going to use.
Bathrooms and kitchens are areas of moisture with the bathroom being the most wet area in the home, any tiles you choose will have to be the correct material in order to withstand the moisture. Glass tiles are excellent tiles because they don’t absorb moisture and they are easy to clean and maintain. Some natural stone products are also ideal as long as they are sealed beforehand.
The colours and styles you choose should reflect your personal preferences and whilst it is nice to have a change and opt for bolder colours and designs, always make sure you can imagine the finished product.
In general lighter colours work better in smaller bathrooms and kitchens, bolder colours used in smaller rooms will absorb the light and make the room appear smaller. Lighter shades help open up small spaces and used together with glass tiles can really help to open up smaller rooms.
Larger bathrooms and kitchens can also carry off bolder designs and busier tile designs. The space in the room helps to reflect the light around the room but if busy patterns and very dark shades are used in smaller kitchens and bathrooms, the room begins to constrict, instantly feeling smaller.
Pastel shades of crèmes; beiges, light greens, light pinks and peaches all work well in smaller spaces whilst deep reds, dark browns, dark blues and blacks will always be better placed in larger spaces. If you particularly like the darker shades but your bathroom is particularly small, you can use the darker shades on borders or in shower areas. Another great design choice is to opt for darker shades on the floor tiles and use neutral and paler shades on walls, this design helps reflect the lighter shades and open up the room beautifully.
Whatever design, material; or colours you choose, planning is the key and experimenting with colours and designs before you decide will help you get a feel for how the room will look when finished.
