The app is an interactive tour guide that charts the band's journey from Hawaii, through Australia and New Zealand, and into Indonesia where the drama of the greatest touring rock band unfolds in a dramatic performance and the death of one of their beloved road crew. Their journey continues up to the band's split in 1976 and Tommy Bolin's death, and includes some of their biggest hits like Stormbringer, Burn, and Keep On Movin'. Video footage from Deep Purple's performances is combined with the original programs, press clippings, and other memorabilia.
MPS' new media team developed the interactive tour guide as a native iPad app, optimizing the content for Apple's iOS to create a dynamic reading experience. Exploiting the device's natural advantages, the app's simple navigation, and high quality audio and video offer Deep Purple fans the chance to re-live the band's most memorable performances. MPS has also created a desktop version with the company's flagship Flash-based eBook development framework.
Rajiv Seth, MD and CEO of MPS, commented: "The iPad is the perfect device for presenting a retrospective of such an iconic band in all its glory. We are delighted to have been able to use our app development expertise for such an exciting project."
Deep Purple (Overseas) commented: "This is a very exciting development for the band Deep Purple and marks another chapter of innovation that began back in 1968 and still continues today with band members such as Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, and Ian Paice fronting one of the great touring acts of all time. DP(O) is delighted to have worked alongside MPS in the production of what we hope will be the first of many successful ventures."
The app is priced at $4.99 and can be downloaded from the iTunes store here: http://itunes.apple.com/
A DVD version was released on 20th May in Europe; worldwide release will follow.
