Growth remains extremely slow in a mature mobile market such as Israel, where penetration rates were close to 130% and increased at a rate of just 3.4% at end-2010. This is equivalent to a total of 9.906mn subscribers. When compared to growth of the 3G market in the same period - up by 19.6% to an estimated 4.555mn - it is clear where demand lies and similarly the attention of the operators in terms of their investments. 3G demand is mainly being driven by competitive price plans, increased smartphone and 3G handset penetration rates and growth in value-added services. This is reflected by the operators' revenues, with Cellcom noting a 24.9% y-o-y increase in data and SMS revenues of ILS286mn in Q309. Meanwhile Partner's revenues for YE10 reached ILS622mn for data and content (excluding SMS), while including SMS its total reached ILS1.120bn, an increase of 22.7% from ILS913mn in the previous year of the same period. ------------------------------------------------------------ Full Report Details at - http://www.fastmr.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Increased competition is due in the mobile sector, with two MVNO licences awarded. Both are to supermarket stores - Telecom 365, a subsidiary of retail group Hamashbir and Rami Levi - and will operate over Pelephone's network. This will at least combat some of the concerns relating to revenues, considering operators are concerned that increased price competition and the impact of reduced interconnection rates, introduced in January 2011, will reduce profits. Under the new interconnection rate plans, prices will fall to ILS0.0687 (US$0.01808) Meanwhile, Israel maintained its position at the top of the latest Middle East and North Africa Business Environment ratings table with a composite score of 69.5 and ahead of second-ranked Bahrain (66.6) and Saudi Arabia (66.1) in third place.
