The podcast of that interview is now available on the 2UE website, and also from http://media.mytalk.com.au/
In response to questions about the radio interview, Ern was noted to have commented:
“It’s always an honour to be recognised for what we do with the Law Society and in the community, and although winning the award is old news it’s good to know that people still remember – to me, that means we must be doing something right, we are contributing and we are making a difference. I’ve often been asked why we’re accepting pro bono work through the Law Society Pro Bono Scheme and I can’t stop singing their praises.”
“We’ve always provided pro bono services or volunteered in different capacities in the community, and although the amount of pro bono services that we perform on behalf of the Law Society Pro Bono Scheme only represents a fraction of our overall work in this area, the Law Society Pro Bono Scheme assists us greatly in our ability to achieve the client’s desired goals – and I only wish they had the resources to be able to do more and refer more.”
“The Law Society Pro Bono Scheme assesses all pro bono enquiries and determines them on means and merit before even referring requests to us. This process ensures that our assistance is provided to those most in need and most deserving, and takes a load of our resources in going through that assessment process ourselves. We’re extremely grateful for the work that the Law Society Pro Bono Scheme does and how they assist us in what we do.”
“In addition to the pro bono services that we provide through the Law Society Pro Bono Scheme, my team of lawyers are constantly looking for ways to contribute to the community that has so graciously supported us over many years and continues to support us today. Current projects include assisting a number of Parramatta-based arts organisations, and part of this is in conjunction with the Parramatta City Council. Aside from other areas of legal and community service, I still maintain a number of voluntary board positions and contribute my time, expertise and experience in general business management, corporate governance and legal knowledge.”
“Law Week is only around the corner and we are proud to announce that we will be presenting on the topic of Elders Law at the Auburn City Council Library. We’ve been asked to present to a predominantly Chinese-speaking audience, and this will be a fantastic opportunity for our newest lawyer, Natalie Lim. Although she is a recent graduate, she has a passion for people and language skills that surpass others in the office, so this will be the perfect opportunity for her to kick-start her career in law. It’s a challenge to find people who share our firm’s attitude and culture towards serving the community.”
“We’ve also recently been approached by the Law Society to take part in other events regarding Elders Law later in the year, and their endorsement is extremely encouraging. If there are other opportunities to present through local libraries, community centres or other groups or associations – let them know, we’re available.”
“I’m extremely pleased at the opportunities that have come our way over the past year, and I appreciate all the support from our clients, friends and families. I have great expectations for the rest of the year and look forward to working with all our stakeholders and support partners in being a positive influence and making a difference.”
