BBC Hygiene Expert is Guest of Honour at CIEH South West Trainers Forum

May 20, 2011 - PRLog -- BBC’s Watchdog and Rogue Restaurants hygiene expert Dr Lisa Ackerley was guest of honour at the first Chartered Institute of Environmental Health South West Trainers Forum of 2011 at Torquay’s TLH Leisure Resort.

Dr Ackerley was invited to deliver a presentation about food safety challenges and the use of mass media to help promote public health messages to the forum of local environmental health trainers.

The event, organised by TLH’s Training Officer Jenny Shipton, was an opportunity for local trainers to share knowledge and training initiatives to help improve their skills and training provision within the region.

Jenny Shipton said: “Food Safety training is vital to the success of any hospitality business and the CIEH training courses help us to meet the strict standards and guidelines we set ourselves.”

“We were delighted that Dr Ackerley agreed to present at our forum. As a leading authority on Environmental Health practices and a regular contributor to media shows, Lisa does a tremendous job in raising the general public’s awareness of the importance and implications of hygiene and food safety.”

“The team at TLH would like to thank everyone who attended the forum, with particular thanks to Dr Ackerley and Ed Wilkinson, Customer Services Manager for CIEH, for travelling the long distance to take part in our forum.”

Dr Ackerley commented on her experience at TLH: “It was a pleasure to visit such a lovely hotel – it was far removed from some of the places that I’ve been sent to by the BBC.”

Edward Wilkinson, Customer Services Manager for the CIEH, said: “Part of my role is to represent the CIEH at Trainers Forums around the country and provide updates on new qualifications and industry developments.  When looking at the upcoming forums I chose Torquay, as although the South West of England is one of my favourite parts of the country, I had never been to Torquay before. It was a great opportunity for me to meet some of our trainers and put faces to names. The day was expertly run by Jenny Shipton and Dr Ackerley’s presentation on food hygiene was very interesting.”

Alongside her role as hygiene expert on the BBC shows, Dr Ackerley is also Managing Director of Hygiene Audit Systems and Visiting Professor for Environmental Heath at Salford University.
