Dr. Anthony Bevilacqua Appointed Medical Director of Joint Replacement and Fracture Care Services at

May 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Suffolk, VA — Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center (SMOC) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Anthony M. Bevilacqua as Medical Director for Sentara Obici’s Joint Replacement & Fracture Care Services.

Dr. Bevilacqua took up his new post on May 1st. He is team leader for a task force of Sentara Obici health care professionals who will be working together to establish Center of Excellence protocols and innovations for patients undergoing joint replacement or fracture care. The team’s goals include optimizing post surgical outcomes, expediting the delivery of orthopaedic care and further improving patient satisfaction.

Dr. Bevilacqua’s appointment is in addition to his full-time position as a surgeon at SMOC, where he specializes in joint replacement, sports medicine, shoulder surgery and fracture care.  Additionally, he is a member of the Sentara Joint Replacement Task Force, a group committed to similar optimization of orthopaedic care throughout the Sentara system.  He also is the current president of the board at the Sentara Obici Ambulatory Surgery Center in Suffolk.

After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Bevilacqua completed his Orthopaedic Surgery training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He honed his skills as an orthopaedic surgeon during his active duty service, with assignments to the Pentagon, South Korea, and Fort Benning, GA.
