Underfloor heating installation fitted in a Surrey College

May 20, 2011 - PRLog -- A college in Surrey has had a new building complete with an underfloor heating installation built. The new addition to Carshalton College is a learning centre, for people with learning difficulties- which is the first of its kind to be opened in the town.

The building which has underfloor heating will be used as a base where both young people and adults with special educational needs will be taught essential life skills- including how to socially interact with people, and how to use public transport independently.

The new building has been given the name ‘The Mavis Peart Building’, as a way of recognising the work by Mavis Peart OBE- who brought the project to life.  The building with under floor heating will provide a learning environment for up to 80 people every year. The college is offering both academic and vocational courses to learners suffering from a wide range of special needs- including autism.

Facilities of this standard are somewhat of a rarity in the UK, which means that people with severe learning difficulties often have to stay at a special residential college miles away from home- which can be particularly unnerving for them.

‘The Mavis Peart Building’ will have a mixed mode cross flow ventilation system fitted. The underfloor heating systems will be controlled via a natural ventilation control, which has been designed to reduce waste energy as much as possible.  These will make sure that the windows and dampers don’t open to control the temperature of the classroom while the underfloor electric heating  is emitting heat.

The college management team will be able to closely monitor the floor heating system anywhere in the college’s campus, via any of the networked computers.  This will also enable a different temperature to be set for each classroom to suit the needs of the learners.
