   In 2010, the worldwide consumption value of packaged component-level LEDs, which are used in SSL General Lighting, reached $500 million.  ElectroniCast forecasts that the consumption value will be nearly $13.4 billion in 2020 (see Data Figure).

According to the market study, the global consumption value of packaged component-level LEDs in solid-state lighting (SSL) General Lighting applications is forecast to reach $2.1 billion in year 2015, an average annual increase of 33.2 percent (2010-2015).  ElectroniCast predicts faster overall growth in the second-half of the forecast period (2015-2020), at 44.9 percent per year.

“The High-Brightness (HB) category also includes ULTRA-High Brightness (UHB) light emitting diodes.  Ultra High Brightness LEDs (higher than 70 lm/W) prices have a substantial premium over the HB-LEDS and although currently there is a relatively small quantity of UHB-LEDs, as the use of UHB-LEDs increase, the overall affect shows the HB-LED category with an annual ASP increase (2010-2015). Otherwise, the trend is for decreasing in ASPs throughout the forecast period, as technology and production yield capabilities improve as well competition intensifies and sales channels improve driven by the fact that governments worldwide are pushing for energy-efficient general lighting,” he added.
