Suicide Survivor on Mission to Aid others in Pain

May 19, 2011 - PRLog -- (Oconomowoc) Howard Thiel’s neurological disorder was so painful and debilitating, he twice attempted to end his suffering by taking his own life. Crediting God with giving him the stamina to turn away from that destructive course, Thiel eventually discovered the cause of his illness and ways to alleviate the discomfort.

“I went from darkness into lightness,” he writes in, I’m Alive, I’m Awake and I Feel Great!  The book chronicles Thiel’s inspirational story and those of five others, all of whom suffer from a rare disorder known as spasmodic torticollis. It adversely affects the muscles of the neck, which causes the head to tilt. But Thiel, the other patients in the book, and medical experts, all discuss effective strategies and therapies for combating the effects of this disorder, which include depression.

“Depression is such a common scourge,” says Thiel. “But no matter its cause, the program identified in, I’m Alive, I’m Awake and I Feel Great, will help sufferers get back on course and reclaim their lives.” In addition to becoming an author, Thiel is Executive Director and Founder of the Spasmodic Torticollis Association.
