Follow on Google News | Koch returns to familiar ground as Nationwide Series debuts in IowaJust three years ago, Koch had never even driven a NASCAR before, now he is making a name for himself one week and one new track at a time before an audience that consists of millions. This week he takes on Iowa at the John Deere Dealers 250.
This Sunday, Koch will strap back into the seat of the Macdonald Motorsports primary #81 car. The 25-year-old former motocross racer is ready to show what he is made of at the track where he has already had moderate success at in his young racing career. “Finally, I’ll be going to a track that I am familiar with,” said Koch, rebounding off a recent tough day at Dover International Raceway where an opening lap crash ended his day far too early. “I’m back in the #81 and we’re locked in the race by points. I am ready to go out and get a spectacular finish in Iowa.” Prior to advancing into the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Koch spent two years racing in the NASCAR West Series. It was during his term out west that he found a groove around the famed Iowa .0875 oval in the two times that he competed there during his career. In 2010, Koch started 26th in the NASCAR West event and drove to 13th. Back in 2009 during is maiden season with NASCAR he drove from 22nd to 16th. For Koch, the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series has placed him amidst a heated battle for the coveted Rookie of the Year Title. At the same time, nearly every track the series has competed has been unchartered territory for Koch. Just three years ago, Koch had never even driven a NASCAR before, the majority of his racing experience took place on two weeks and then into speedway trucks and late models in the Florida region. Now he is making a name for himself one week and one new track at a time before an audience that consists of millions. With the support of the Daystar Television Network and the resources set forth by MacDonald Motorsports, Koch has been that shining star in the distance in nearly all 9 of his starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Using great patience and poise and following the guidance of his longtime spotter Chris Monez, Koch is earning his stripes in one of auto racing’s premier venues. At the same time, he's working diligently spreading the message of God to the NASCAR community in a ministry that takes place at more than 100 miles per hour with the support of Daystar. It’s a new entity in NASCAR that is catching the attention of fans at every track this team rolls into. Following the tough Dover finish, Koch sits 23rd in the NASCAR Nationwide point standings. He remains in the closely contested battle for the Rookie of the Year title in which he is currently ranked third place behind Ryan Truex and Timmy Hill.
