May 18, 2011 - PRLog -- ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri–St. Louis introduces a new Test Prep Program to prepare students for the GRE and LSAT exams. The GRE prep course begins June 4, 2011, and continues on Saturdays, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., through June 25, 2011. Standardized test scores on exams such as the GRE and LSAT are a major component of the graduate school application process, and this new program will assist students in completing the exams with success.

The UMSL test preparation courses are designed by a team of exam question writers and test preparation experts. In addition, the courses include comprehensive classroom instruction, experienced and expert instructors, preparation materials, easy-to-follow presentations and explanations, practice test opportunities, actual questions from previous exams, computer-adaptive software, and access to UMSL’s instructors beyond the classroom experience.

The GRE program topics include utilizing the process of elimination, mastering time management skills, minimizing test anxiety and identifying common distracters. The quantitative section includes tips for breaking complex word problems into manageable parts, and tips for turning geometry diagrams into solvable equations. Verbal test topics include how to solve analogy problems when you don’t know the vocabulary, how to answer reading comprehension questions quickly, and how to use comparison and contrast clues to solve sentence completion problems. The program consists of 24 hours of classroom instruction, together with additional practice problems, sample tests and skill review exercises.

The course was developed by Dr. Stephen Harris and Steven Shotts, co-founders of Educational Testing Consultants, Inc. Combined, the creators have more than 30 years experience working with standardized tests, including writing actual test items for the GRE.

The course fee of $799 includes instruction as well as the course materials, including the latest edition of the official test prep book for the GRE General Test, Practicing to Take the GRE General Test, and the GRE Student Workbook.
