On May 31 the balloon will visit Brooks Middle School, located at 325 S. Kenilworth Ave. and on June 6 it will go to Julian Middle School, located at 416 S. Ridgeland Ave. The students at both schools will learn about various aspects of ballooning, including its history and the scientific principles involved, and they will see a demonstration on how the balloon functions. The RE/MAX balloon is expected to visit 50 schools this year in northern Illinois.
The program will be presented twice in the Brooks gymnasium, at 9:20 a.m. for the sixth-grade students and at 10:30 a.m. for the seventh grade classes. At Julian, the program will be presented at 9:20, 10:10 and 11 a.m. During each presentation, the 75-foot-tall balloon envelope will be inflated with cold air, permitting students to walk inside it. The presentations then will conclude outdoors with a demonstration of how the balloon basket and burners operate.
