"I found out that because of that membership fee, some people could not participate in vacation home exchange," says Manuela van Prooijen, founder of HomeExchanging.net. Van Prooijen, an experienced home exchanger, discovered that the membership fees were sometimes a barrier for people with low incomes to join a site. Therefore, she decided to start her own professional free-of-charge home exchange site.
"There are already many free home exchange websites, but it is not always clear what their purpose is. Unfortunately, some of those so-called free-of-charge home exchange websites are just scammers, out to make a quick buck from new home exchangers. I have no commercial goals with Homeexchanging.net. My aim is to make vacation home exchange available to those who would normally not be able to afford it, and to make even more people enthusiastic about the concept of home exchange. "
HomeExchanging.net works like many of the existing professional home exchange sites, with the exception that people do not have to pay any (membership)
Van Prooijen and her family have done exchanges to destinations like Cape Town, Paris and New York. One thing is the same everywhere in the world: "Friends and family of the exchange party take you out and show you the most interesting places. I want these unique experiences to become available for many more people. You have to love a surprise however. The destination home may be completely different than what you are used to. We swapped our small downtown Utrecht (Netherlands)
