Sao Paulo, Brazil May 18, 2011

Brachin an Executive Search Firm conducted a survey that finds more expatriate workers in the Brazilian economy. The survey is available at www.brachin.com.

A report released by Brazilian Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE), shows that 56,006 foreigner professionals were allowed to work in Brazil in 2010. From this total, 53,441 were temporary permits, allowing foreigners to stay in the country for up to two years.

"The increase in the number of authorizations is related to growing investments in Brazil, especially in industrial, oil, gas and energy sectors. It is characterized by the acquisition of equipment from abroad, along with new companies of foreign capital that are being deployed in Brazil. In the industrial sector, for example, the increase represents the expansion of our industrial park, as well as the modernization and deployment of new industries”, explained Brachin's Managing Director for Brazil, Francisco Apoloni.

Sao Paulo showed the greatest concentration of authorizations granted, from 18,285 in 2009 to 25,550 in 2010. Rio de Janeiro is the second on the list, from 18,956 to 22,371 working visa requests. Minas Gerais remained in third place, with 2,644; followed by Amazonas with 1,164 and Parana with 1,035. Americans were the ones who requested more working permits: 7,550 in 2010. The Philippines follows with 6,531 in 2010; then United Kingdom (3,809), India (3,237) and Germany (2,904).
