Author and resident, Nick Wastnage, has released through Smashwords an updated and restyled version of his first popular novel. Re-titled, Electronic Crime in Muted Key, it tells the story of Barry Carter - alias Greg Richards, alias Sebastian Ainsworth, alias Scorpion - who fakes his death and believes he’s pulled off the perfect electronic crime. But his scorned lover and bitter wife come after him.

Although fictional, this tale has as uncanny resemblance to the real life story of John Darwin, the debt laden fraudster who faked his death in 2002 and then turned up in Panama in 2007, after his wife had pocketed his life assurance pay out and his debtors had given up all hope of any reimbursement of their money. John Darwin and his wife were sent to prison in 2008.
Nick Wastnage created his story in 1999, a few years before John Darwin committed his crime. Perhaps Darwin used Nick Wastnage’s book as his blueprint?
