Last month, Meritage Homes unveiled its “Extreme Green” homes in Las Vegas. These homes can save homeowners up to 50 percent on their utility bills when compared to a typical existing home. Going even greener, the builder’s new “net-zero”
homes combine the energy-efficiency features that come standard in its “Extreme Green” homes with a revolutionary ECHO complete solar solution that provides renewable electricity, hot water, and solar air conditioning, resulting in “net-
zero” homes that can produce as much renewable energy as they use.
“Meritage Homes is leading a residential revolution that changes the way homes in America can and should be built,” said C.R. Herro, the company’s vice president of Environmental Affairs. “The result is a new level of energy efficiency for a home in Las Vegas.”
Herro added that this new approach to homebuilding makes homes more energy-efficient and still affordable, “an affordable net-zero home is not the home of the future anymore – the future is now.”
Homebuyers who purchase a “net-zero”
home not only can reduce their monthly electric bills, but also be eligible for a $9,000 federal tax credit, making the home even more affordable.
“My goal was to minimize my utility costs and achieve the highest level of energy efficiency possible,” said Bob Beckett, buyer of the first net-zero home built by Meritage Homes in Las Vegas. “I did my homework and found that only a net-zero home from Meritage Homes achieves these goals, at a price I can afford.”
There are an estimated 100 “net-zero”
homes in the country to date, but these are either custom-built homes with the price tags to match or homebuilder spec-display homes. Herro said Meritage has incorporated all of the energy-efficient elements necessary to build the first “net-zero”
homes by a production home builder in the US. Recently awarded the coveted "2011 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year," Meritage Homes is best known for integrating advanced technologies into its design and building, from the ground up, and at no added cost to the buyer.
To introduce its “net-zero”
homes, Meritage Homes launched a national “Net-Zero Revolution Home Sweepstakes”
on Earth Day, April 22, offering one of its new “net-zero”
homes in Arizona as the grand prize. The sweepstakes ends on May 30, and a winner will be announced in early June. To enter the Meritage Homes Net-Zero Revolution Home Sweepstakes, visit: www.Facebook.com/
