“Even though last year’s Ice Cream Eating Challenge was a blast and tons of people came out to try to qualify, we had an overwhelming request to lower the minimum age for contestants to that younger kids can participate. This Summer we added two new event categories so now the whole family can come in and participate,”
Categories for this year’s event consist of Individual Men’s Pig’s Trough Challenge (ages 16+), Individual Women’s Pig’s Trough Challenge (ages 16+), Kid’s One Person Jr. Pig’s Trough Challenge (ages 9-15), The Big and Small Pig’s Trough Challenge (2-persons, ages 16+ and 9 and under) and the 4-person Zoo Challenge.
Finalists who qualify for the Championship event, will race to see who is the fastest person or team in each category. Everyone will battle to be the first to completely finish a Farrell’s Pig’s Trough which consists of 6 scoops of ice cream, toppings and whipped cream. Except for the 4-person team that will race to eat a Farrell’s Zoo that includes over 30 scoops of ice cream, a variety of toppings and whipped cream.
Last year’s Champions consisted of Robert Caggiano who finished the Men’s Pig Trough Challenge in 1 minute 15 seconds, Tisha Stephens who finished the Women’s Pig Trough Challenge in 2 minutes 3 seconds, and team “3 Kids and an Old Guy”, Eric Hall, Jordan Weis, Nick Johnson and Fawad Alvi from Orange County, finished the Zoo in 2 minutes 11 seconds.

Started by Robert “Bob” Farrell in 1963, Farrell’s is a step back in time over 100 years to an old-time ice cream parlour. Farrell’s is known for its delicious ice cream and food concoctions, oversized portions, and rowdy but fun party atmosphere. At it’s height, Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlours had approximately 130 locations nation wide. After its sale in 1985 to an investment group, the Farrell’s concept was changed and by early 1990’s and all the Farrell’s restaurants nationwide were closed. In 2001, Orange County, CA based, Parlour Enterprises Inc revived the original Farrell’s concept envisioned by Bob Farrell and began moving ahead with the reopening Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlors. Farrell’s currently has two locations open, The Shops at Mission Viejo, 779 Shops Blvd. Mission Viejo, Ca. 92691 and in Mountasia Family Fun Center in Santa Clarita, 21516 Golden Triangle Road, Santa Clarita, Ca. 91350.
