Also last week, a Texas couple filed suit against 10 companies that they claim exposed a man to asbestos during his years as a carpenter. The man alleges to suffer from an asbestos related illness.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Asbestos is a generic name given to a fibrous variety of six naturally occurring minerals that have been used for decades in thousands of commercial products.” The CDC goes on to state, “Persons occupationally exposed to asbestos have developed several types of life-threatening diseases, including lung cancer. Although the use of asbestos and asbestos products has dramatically decreased, they are still found in many residential and commercial settings and continue to pose a health risk to workers and others.”
Lawsuits involving asbestos issues happen across the United States on a weekly basis. Indoor air quality (IAQ) consultants and asbestos abatement companies, who are hired to investigate and remedy situations involving asbestos, are often named in these lawsuits.
“Professionals dealing with asbestos need to have thorough insurance coverage in the event that they are named in a lawsuit,” reported Brian Mcfarland, Vice President from Legends Environmental Insurance, a leading provider of professional asbestos insurance coverage. “Legends has several programs for companies that deal with asbestos issues that provide comprehensive coverage and peace of mind,” he continued.
