E & P Marine, an international manufacturer's representative, says foreign manufacturers will have to comply with new fuel system designs with integrated components (carbon canisters, fills, vents and valves) such as the emission control systems available from Perko. For diagrams and systems, visit http://www.perkofuelsystems.com.
Since California also has its own regulations with somewhat higher restrictions E & P Marine recommends that manufacturers use California's CARB specifictions.
Included in the regulations is a transition program which allows manufacturers a phased-in period to produce exempted vessels.
In order to participate in this program manufacturers must send EPA written notification by July 31, 2011. Manufacturers can download sample notification letter at: http://www.epmarine.com/
Perko has been manufacturing fuel system components since 1936 and they now include carbon canisters and specialized fuel system valves design specifically to meet new EPA and CARB emissions regulations. To assure safe, competitive quality components, Perko has partnered with experienced automotive suppliers of these components with proven records of quality. Together they have worked to tailor their proven designs to best fit the needs of boat builders.
Delphi has been manufacturing automotive carbon canisters for over 35 years. Alfmeier has been manufacturing tank vent valves for over 30 years. Both work to automotive quality standards for fuel systems. With these new partners, Perko is working to provide boat builders with the right solution to reduce diurnal emissions for each model boat they build.
