May 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Reliant Pharmacy opened at 200 Main Street South in Southbury in December 2010 and continues to offer uncommon, much-welcomed highly-personalized services. Independently-owned and managed, and not part of a large national chain, Reliant Pharmacy is managed by Ms. Sandhya R. Kantamaneni, M.S., R.Ph., and her cousin, Sirisha Pavuluri, M.S., who is also a staff pharmacist. They are both highly-trained in the distinctive service of compounding.

“We are the only pharmacy in the Southbury area,” explained Ms. Kantamaneni, “that compounds medications by using the state-of-the-art technology of a powder-containment hood with an EMP-an electronic mortar and pestle machine to prepare medications into capsules that are more comfortable and easier for a customer to ingest. Compounding a medication specific to a doctor’s prescription can help a person, or animal, who cannot ingest a large pill. By compounding the specifics of a prescription, we can create flavored lozenges, liquids or capsules, suppositories or a trans-dermal cream that is rubbed onto the skin to help a patient who has trouble taking pills. This is a very unique service that we offer for pets as well.”

Reliant Pharmacy provides these distinctive compounding services at no extra charge to their customers. A proud member of the PCCA (Professional Compounding Centers of America), “We can compound a medication into capsules, liquids, lozenges, creams, ointments or suppositories. We customize medications into whatever form is most comfortable for each patient’s personal needs. Medications can be compounded for adults, children and animals, and we only compound only what is prescribed by a physician, and we only use FDA-approved chemicals,” stated pharmacist Kantamaneni.

“Compounding is an excellent way to administer medications for children, autistic individuals, dental needs, pain management, dermatology, podiatry, urological problems, and veterinary needs,” explained Ms. Kantamaneni. “It addresses individual needs ideally. We can create a variety of flavors through compounding that are helpful for adults or children who have difficulty taking oral medications, especially medications that taste bitter. We even offer compounding to provide a means for giving medications to pets. We are the only store in Southbury area to offer this service.”

OTHER UNCOMMON SERVICES
Free delivery and pickup from home or office of medications or prescriptions is another distinctive service of the new Reliant Pharmacy. They also have a conveniently-located drive-thru window for quick prescription drop off or pickup; personalized nutritional program offered from their full line of nutritional supplements; online prescription refill ordering; plus Medication Therapy Management (MTM) are all among the many uncommon services this new area pharmacy offers.

“We can also fill prescriptions within 10 minutes. Our customers do not wait on lines, or return within 2 or 3 hours for their prescriptions. Our staff can fill most prescriptions in 10 short minutes,” commented Ms. Pavuluri.

Southbury-area seniors are offered a 10% discount at Reliant Pharmacy on vitamins, plus the new store offers medication pill boxes to help individuals take their prescribed medications on a daily basis as directed by their physicians. “Our customized Blister Packs,” explained Ms. Kantamaneni, “are packets of pills marked for each date that we create. Each pill on specific dates is encased in a foil packet for that day. An individual must break the blister foil wrapping to take their pill. This blister packet prevents a person from forgetting if he or she took their medication on a specific day because if the blister is broken, the pill was taken. It’s personalized and extremely helpful. We do this at no extra cost to our customers.”

Southbury T-shirts are among the distinctive items for sale at the new Reliant Pharmacy. The store also offers a small gift and candles display, along with a large selection of over-the-counter medications, vitamins and nutritional supplements. Personalized review of the medications and supplement counseling is offered to customers with one of the on-staff pharmacists.

“Our goal,” elaborated Pharmacist Kantamaneni, “is to help people in the Southbury area in every way possible. We offer personalized attention because we established this business to serve our customers needs in the most comfortable and convenient of ways. We bill most insurance companies, including Medicare.

Most people don’t realize it, but if an individual spends $100 in their local community, $62 of that money stays right here in the Southbury community. If that person buys the same products through a national pharmacy chain, only $42 of that $100 stays in our community. We want to help Southbury thrive.”

Toward that "local community" ambition, Jay Palylyk, the pharmacist from Heritage Village Pharmacy recently joined the Reliant Pharmacy team. Mr. Palylyk’s presence brings the total number of pharmacists serving Reliant Pharmacy to four. In addition to Ms. Sandhya Kantamaneni and Ms. Pavuluri, Reliant Pharmacy is also served by Mr. Satya Valiveti, Ms. Kantamaneni’s husband, who is a pharmacist-scientist. They are all notably assisted by long-time Southbury resident, certified pharmacy technician, Ms. Melissa Phelan.

“Transferring prescriptions from pharmacy to pharmacy can be easily expedited by our competent staff,” explained Ms. Kantamaneni. “Our full-time staff of pharmacists is fully prepared to take calls from area residents stating they want to transfer their prescriptions to Reliant Pharmacy. One phone call to us, and we do all the rest.”
