LPU organized 3 day workshop on 'Interactive Multimedia and Online Distance Learning'

May 16, 2011 - PRLog -- The Directorate of Open & Distance Learning of Lovely Professional University organized 3-Day Workshop on 'Interactive Multimedia and Online Distance Learning' for the Staff and Faculty of the Distance Education Department of the University. The workshop was conducted by Professor Santosh panda & Ms G. Mythili from the Staff Training & Research Institute of Distance Education (STRIDE), New Delhi, who have more than 20 years of experience to train distance education faculty. More than 50 Staff Members of the Directorate attended the Workshop of six-sessions from 12 to 14th  of May 2011. The Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal had inaugurated the Workshop.

On the valedictory day of this organization, Chancellor Mr Mittal informed: "The present workshop is to update the staff members of our Directorate of ODL on new techniques in this area.  The LPU ODL wants to provide world class distance imparting with latest trends and techniques, in an efficient manner, so that its students may be directly employable." He added, "It would certainly pave the way for an educated, value-oriented and dynamic global society, by making quality education accessible and affordable to all those who aspire and endeavour to learn." He also said: "STRIDE members have really added value through their untiring efforts unto the staff members and faculty of DODL."

On this occasion, the resource persons, Prof Panda and Ms Mythili said: "We want that with the advent of new techniques and technologies, the distance education should be imparted in an efficient manner. A student should never feel that distance education is much different from regular education." They also added: "We are very happy to see the enthusiasm at the university towards this mode of education. The way LPU is out to design its DODL is superb and it is beyond doubts that its efforts will certainly bring revolution towards this." They also explained that they imparted new techniques like Virtual Networking, Instructional Design Models & Interactive multimedia, On-line assessment and evaluation, E-portfolio and other related techniques to make learning more effective and entertaining as well.

Two of the workshop attendees, Assistant Prof. Sukhpreet Kaur and Lecturer Sonam Mahajan said: " The workshop has trained us on the latest trends and techniques towards imparting of Education to all those aspirants who may be residing in any of the nooks and corners of the world. We feel that all the trainees at the workshop will be more efficient towards the workings of the Directorate from now onwards."It is illustrative that the Directorate is reaching to masses offering 14 Programmes in the field of Management and IT, at Bachelor's and Master's Level. Its attempts are to make education accessible beyond the closed confines of classrooms. It is constantly working towards Student Support Services, Infrastructure and Learning Resources, Curriculum Up-gradation - to constantly match the industry requirement, Automation of Systems and Learning Pedagogy by providing online access for latest and up-to-date information, academic resources and various administrative facilities.
