May 17, 2011 - PRLog -- The Baby Boomers have made it to retirement, but their work is not finished.  The Boomers have about 30,000,000 aging and elderly parents who need help now or will need it soon.  And most of the Boomers are not prepared—they are faced with the most daunting challenge of their lives.  Whether they intend to move their parents in with them or into an assisted-living facility, the Boomers need Mama Moves In and the online databases to help them assess, decide, prepare and cope. Visit http://www.dykepublishing.com for more details.

Tom Dyke, author of Mama Moves In, found out the hard way.  He moved his 84-years-old mom into his home where she lived the last 5 ½ years of her life.  There were no books on in-home elder care and Google had not arrived.  Dyke had practiced law, married and raised two children, divorced, remarried and raised six children, started and operated several companies and thought he was prepared for anything.  Wrong!

Dyke confessed to, “… not being prepared.”  He allowed that, “the learning curve was steep and went on for at least his first two years as the primary elder care provider.”  Dyke went on to say that he knew millions of folks were coming along behind him and he wanted to do all he could to make it easier for them than it was for him.  He wrote Mama Moves In and built two online, internet-resourced databases for elder care information and products.

Mama Moves In is a comprehensive resource for anyone considering, or in the midst of, caring for an elderly parent in their home.  Dyke has done all of the research and included information and tips (both practical and emotional) within the pages of the book and additional information in the databases.

The databases give quick access to all of the author’s research as well as new information as it becomes available.  With the click of a computer mouse there is quick access to articles by doctors, researchers, teachers and other professionals on all of the appropriate categories listed:  ALS, Aging Issues, Alcohol, Alzheimer’s and Dementia, Anger, Arthritis, Asset Management, Baby Boomers, Bank Accounts and Banking, Bedsores, Blogs, Bowel Dysfunction, Brain Fitness and Neuroplasticity, Cancer, Caregiver, Care giving, Constipation, Dental, Depression, Diabetes, Diet, Dementia, Driving, Drugs and Drug Plan Benefits, Dysphagia, Education, Elder care, Elder care Blogs, Elderly’s Diseases, Emotions, Exercise, Eyesight, Feelings of the Caregiver, Geriatrics, Hearing, Hispanic—Problems Peculiar to Hispanics, Hospice, Humor, Incontinence and Constipation, Insomnia, Insurance Products, Internet, Law, Law and Taxes, Living Wills, Long-Term Care, Medicaid, Medical Symptoms, Medicare, Medigap (Medicare Supplemental), Mental Health, Music and the Elderly, Neuroplasticity, Products for the Elderly, Prostate Disorder, Safety, Senior Citizens, Skin, Smoking, Social Security Benefits, Spirituality, Stroke, Swallowing Disorder, Toenails, Urinary Tract Infection, Vision, Wills/Trusts, and the list is growing.

Using the web-based technology, the information in the databases is always current—so the book is never out of date! More information

Also the databases give instant access to “Products for the Elderly.”  Many websites that sell hundreds of items from back scratchers and bedpans to motorized wheelchairs—products that help both the caregiver and the loved one—are available. The products are organized alphabetically, so it is easy to find anything, buy what is needed and have the products delivered anywhere. With competing sites listed, it is easy to compare costs and get the best deal. More informatioin

In an interview, Dyke said, “My fervent hope is that other children of aging and elderly parents have the information they need to have good insights and to make good decisions about elder care in their home or an elder care facility and to minimize the steep and challenging learning curve I experienced.”
