No stranger to the hardships of independent filmmaking, Houlihan brings a complete understanding of the frustrations that dedicated filmmakers face when running the gauntlet of film festivals, distribution, and achieving an audience. AOF film festival manager, Carlos Hernandez, said, 'every film festival needs someone just like Nina. To be able to depend on the festival to achieve what you cannot do on your own is immensely important.'
Among her duties as liasion for filmmakers and media outlets, Houlihan will also see to it that filmmakers understand the importance of proper media etiquette when dealing with news outlets and media professionals. She will also assist them with writing press realeases, getting quotes for their work, and helping them build audiences for their films, many of which will be world premieres at the 2011 event.
'It's all about excellence in independent film and we're very proud to showcase and celebrate the AOF filmmakers, their work, and the best in everything action from an independent filmmaker's point of view,' said Karen Bullis, editor and former AOF award-nominated filmmaker.
'This is a really great opportunity because I love working with people, and assisting a group that rarely receives the accolades and credit they deserve really gives the job meaning,' said Nina Houlihan. She went on to say, 'I'm very excited to be a part of the AOF team, and am greatly anticipating the future successes of these talented filmmakers.'
