Consumer Protection Roofing Bill Killed

May 12, 2011 - PRLog -- A consumer friendly roofing bill intended to regulate roofers by the Division of Registrations, Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) that was making it’s way through the legislature was killed recently.  The bill had many supporters on both sides of the aisle but fell victim to politics.  The bill, SB11-207 was not killed on its merits but rather got caught up in a larger political battle on immigration reform.

While this is a tremendous disappointment to all the hard working ethical roofers in Colorado the bill could be revisited next year.  The intent of SB11-207 was to safeguard the consumer by ensuring that all roofing contractors in the state of Colorado meet certain criteria as set forth by the state.

Without the passage of SB11-207 Colorado is still a “buyer beware” state when doing business with roofing contractors.  The Colorado Roofing Association recommends that all consumers shopping for roofs or roofing supplies ask for and check references including visiting the CRA website www.ColoradoRoofing.org and utilize the resources on the site including the “contractor search feature” and “how to select a roofing contractor”.

While CRA is not a consumer agency equipped to handle disputes it remains one of Colorado’s best resources for general information on how to select a roofing contractor.
