May 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Cambridge Wireless – the leading industry forum for companies involved in wireless technologies – is hosting a seminar for new and emerging businesses called ‘How to stay afloat’. Experienced business leaders will address topics such as how to win and keep good customers, grant and investor options and how to keep costs down without damaging growth prospects. The master class, which is part of the Cambridge Wireless Discovering Start-Ups initiative, will take place at Nesta in London on the 12th of July from noon until 17:30pm.

Round-table sessions each chaired by a business expert will focus on specific problems and challenges and explore practical strategies to survive and build a successful business in the current economic climate.

Discussions will be led by successful entrepreneurs and industry leaders including Ben Whitaker from Masabi Mobile Tickets, Clive Rich from Rich Futures, Libby Kinsey from Nesta, Guy Nelmes from UKTI, Guy Hanson from BDO and serial business start-up specialist Harvey Jones. Issues covered include:

Working with customers – how to identify, approach and keep them and are your customers worth the time you spend with them?
Other sources of funding for your business - when are the best times to raise investment and who are the people to talk to? How to avoid fund-raising going wrong; what should you expect in terms of dilution; and taking money from friends and family.

Reducing your overheads - why accountants don’t have flash premises and the trade-off between DIY and bought-in services. Can thinking global and working local save you money and what should you expect to pay for and get for free.

“These are challenging times for any new and growing businesses and this series of events is designed to provide help and advice from people who have been through the experience and are happy to share their knowledge,” said Kevin Coleman, MD of Alliantus and Cambridge Wireless Business SIG champion.

‘How to Stay Afloat’ is a free event for Cambridge Wireless Members and invited guests and limited free tickets are also available to non-members. For more information and to register, please visit: http://www.cambridgewireless.co.uk/events/article/default...
