May 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Fostering Fortnight 2011

Every year the Fostering Network organises an awareness campaign to highlight the need for more foster carers in the UK.

The Fostering Network is a national charity which supports foster carers in the UK and in turn improves the lives of children in the care system.

This years' Fostering Fortnight is taking place for two weeks from 16th May to 29th May so you should start to see news stories about fostering and the shortage of foster carers in your local press and TV news and even on the national news.

There is currently a shortage of 10,000 foster carers in the UK so there couldn't be a better time to consider the idea of fostering as a career.

One of the Blue Sky Fostering foster carers has this advice:

"If you are seriously considering fostering as a career, then don't do what I did and sit back and think about it for too long. Yes, it is scary to make the 'leap of faith' from a long-term career, but after having done the role now for a number of years, I couldn't imagine doing anything else. It really is very rewarding."

If you live in the south of England, have determination, patience, a spare room and the desire to make a difference to a young person's life call us on 0845 6076697 or enquire online.

About Blue Sky Fostering
Blue Sky Fostering was established in 2005, with the aim of addressing the need for more foster carers in the south of England. Since then, we have built a reputation for excellence, providing extensive training and support during the challenges that come with being a professional foster carer. Working together with our foster carers, we believe we can help every child reach his or her full potential, regardless of previous life experiences.
Based in Romsey, Hampshire, but operating across the south of England, Blue Sky supports over 70 foster carers, caring for around 80 children across the region.

Blue Sky Fostering is one of the few UK accredited Ofsted Fostering Agencies after being deemed 'outstanding' as a fostering provider following an inspection by Ofsted in 2011.

About foster care
Across England, there are an estimated 64,000 children in the care system. Over 44,000 of these children and young people – the majority of whom are aged between 10 and 15 – are in foster care. The need for foster carers is increasing each year, with a shortfall of around 10,000 foster carers nationwide.
