Follow on Google News | Bed Bug Conference Will Spotlight Statewide Pandemic, SolutionsAnnouncing Wisconsin's first all-day Bed Bug Conference on May 24 in Milwaukee and May 25 in Appleton. The conference, directed toward public and private facility services representatives, will cover the state's tremendous bed bug infestation.
By: Christine Venuti Dr. Philip Tierno from NYU's Langone Medical Center states that bed bugs use humans as a means of spreading quickly. "Many of them hitch a ride so that you deposit them in a department store ... a movie theater, a play house, etc.," he said. Bed bugs are inhabiting waiting rooms, libraries, retail and second hand stores, hotels, schools and more. The Bed Bug Conference will focus on identifying infestations, available treatments, legal risks faced by property and facility managers, and step-by-step action plans tailored to a number of specific industries. Speakers include: • Jeffrey Lipman – attorney and bed bug litigation specialist • Arnold Ramsey – chemist at FMC Corp. and former pest management professional for the Dept. of Defense • Jeff White – research entomologist and host of TV's BedBug Central • Ted Snyder – urban entomologist, author, media source, and expert at Batzner Bed Bug Services, Inc. • Jason Freels – NESDCA certified handler of scent-detection canines and team leader at Batzner Bed Bug Services, Inc. The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) and the University of Kentucky last year reported that "we are on the threshold of a bed bug pandemic, not just in the United States, but around the world.” Their survey revealed that 95% of US pest management companies encountered a bed bug infestation in the past year.
