PRLog - May 11, 2011 - SEATTLE -- SEATTLE, WA – OTTER LLC of Seattle, Washington announced today it will be donating its texting management and text and drive solution to all participants of the first annual 5 K walk/run, "Join the Race against Distracted Driving”. The event will be held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at Howard Wood Field on Saturday, June 11 at 9 a.m.
"Distracted driving is intentional neglect that endangers other people on the road. People on the road like my brother, your family, and your friends," said Vaillancourt. "These crashes are 100 percent preventable. My brother Kelson's crash was 100 percent preventable. I can tell you that nothing is worth this kind of loss, this kind of pain."
Loren Vaillancourt has taken her distracted driving message to the national stage since her brother, Kelson, was killed as a passenger in a text and drive accident in 2009. “Ms. Vaillancourt has taken the hard road, in my opinion. She faces the difficult memory of her brother daily so that others can benefit from their family’s tragedy. When we found out Loren was promoting OTTER on her own, we were flattered and ready to reciprocate in any way we could,” says OTTER founder and CEO, Erik Wood.
“If even one person drives home from this event without distraction because of our app, we will feel successful. That will be one more person who is 23 times safer right away”, adds OTTER Co-Founder, Jon Lam.
OTTER’s patent pending concept first developed in late 2009 made it the first app of its kind that integrates a texting auto reply and GPS functionality to produce a tool that allows users to manage their texts while they are at home, in the office or, most importantly, on the highway. OTTER includes a GPS Parental Control feature for the highest risk drivers - teens. Parents can enter a session specific pass code on teen’s phones to make sure that GPS Mode is on when the user is driving. OTTER offers a tool to the texting culture instead of an invasive texting "lock down" system.
