The Maderer Foundation Announces 2011 Scholarship Recipients

Buffalo, NY - The selection committee of the Maderer Foundation has selected Cameron Gordon, Maura Chmielowiec and Jennifer Carland as the 2011 recipients of the John A. Maderer Memorial Scholarship.

May 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Buffalo, NY – The selection committee of the Maderer Foundation has selected Cameron Gordon, Maura Chmielowiec and Jennifer Carland as the 2011 recipients of the John A. Maderer Memorial Scholarship.

Keith D. Maderer, the selection committee chairman, announced the winners of the 2011 awards and wishes to thank all other applicants for sharing their time, creativity and accomplishments in this years submissions.  

Jennifer Carland, the daughter of Pamela and James Carland, will graduate from West Seneca East high school were she had the lead role in the school musical, played field hockey and taught religion at her local church. She plans to attend a SUNY college and study nutrition and dietetics in the fall.

Maura Chmielowiec, the daughter of Cheryl and Don Chmielowiec, will graduate from Batavia high school were she participated in track, student government and was the commissioner of the LINK crew. She plans to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she will study engineering.  

Cameron Gordon, the son of Deborah Heilemann, will graduate from Alden high school were he was the school news TV anchor and a scholar athlete participating in swimming and track. He will attend one of the SUNY schools this fall and pursue a career in communications and broadcasting.  

The John A Maderer Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to several students from the  Alden, Batavia, Orchard Park and West Seneca high schools. Recipients are selected based on a variety of criteria which include accomplishments, community service and career goals.

The Maderer Foundation was established in 2004 after the death of John A. Maderer from asbestos related lung cancer. John was a lifelong resident of WNY and coached football for many West Seneca area youth. His surviving spouse and four children all reside in WNY.
