By: Carrie Hotchkiss A Day in the Life of a Circle documents a day in an elementary classroom. As the lights come on, the children rush into the classroom, running here and there as their school day begins. Bursting with excitement, the children gather in a circle for their morning meeting. As their teacher leads them through the meeting, the children reflect on the importance of rules and how they provide order in all areas of life. The musical’s theme coincides beautifully with what the children are actually learning in the classroom. Elementary- The musical’s conclusion provides an appropriate metaphor for the children. By following the rules of music, beautiful melodies and harmonies can blossom. Likewise, by following the rules of friendship and school, students undergo the transformation from an egocentric toddler and young child, to an older child who is aware of the rest of the world. Alan Bell wrote the original musical's script and lyrics. Alex Mitnick, the school's music teacher, composed the music and directed the play. # # # The Princeton Montessori School serves children from infancy through eighth grade. The school is located on 20 acres. The School is accredited by the Middle States Association and the American Montessori Society. End
