May 11, 2011 - PRLog -- ALBANY, New York -- (May 11, 2011)  --  From a slow economic recovery in the United States to current events and unsettling news headlines from around the world, there are many reasons Americans are stressed and unable to get a good night’s sleep.

According to a new survey conducted by PrimaLoft®, the Luxury Down Alternative®, in recognition of national Better Sleep Month (May), nearly three-quarters (72-percent) of Americans confess there’s usually something they lose sleep over at night.

In recent economic times, it’s not surprising that financial issues keep about one out of every two Americans from getting a good night’s sleep (49-percent). Other respondents blame their sleeplessness on their job (23-percent), current events (21-percent), or the disturbance of their significant other sleeping beside them (17-percent).

Close to three in ten (28-percent) with sleepless nights blame their fatigue on uncomfortable bedding, such as an old, lifeless pillow. Although most Americans spend on average one third of their lives in bed, many don’t realize the important role that their bedding plays in obtaining a good night’s sleep.

According to sleep experts, pillows should be replaced every few years, and sleeping with a comfortable pillow that supports your head and neck can greatly improve sleep quality. Along with proper nutrition and regular exercise, the quality and quantity of one’s sleep cycle is central to heath and wellness and contributes greatly to overall productivity and well-being.

To help raise awareness for Better Sleep Month while encouraging improved sleep habits for better overall health, PrimaLoft® is conducting the “Better Sleep Bedroom Makeover” contest offering one winner a bedroom makeover, featuring a PrimaLoft® Luxury Down Alternative bedding (including a PrimaLoft® comforter and four luxurious PrimaLoft® pillows).

“Troubling headlines in the news are enough to keep anyone up at night,” said Eileen Berner, sales and marketing director for PrimaLoft®. “It’s comforting to know that there are some easy remedies to improve sleep, including upgrading your sleep system. Our goal with the Better Sleep Bedroom Makeover is to help raise awareness of this important issue through an interactive, fun approach.”

Survey Methodology
The PrimaLoft Pillow Survey was conducted by Kelton Research between April 4th and April 11th, 2011 via email invitation and an online survey. Quotas are set to ensure reliable and accurate representation of the total U.S. population ages 18 and over. Results of any sample are subject to sampling variation. The magnitude of the variation is measurable and is affected by the number of interviews and the level of the percentages expressing the results. In this particular study, the chances are 95 in 100 that a survey result does not vary, plus or minus, by more than 3.1 percentage points from the result that would be obtained if interviews had been conducted with all persons in the universe represented by the sample.
