UK and US infrastructure 'at risk' of cyber threats due to lack of information sharing

More synergy between the public and private sector is essential in mitigating the threat of a cyber attack in both the UK and US.

May 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Speaking ahead of Defence IQ's Cyber Security event in June, Bob Nowill, Director of Cyber at BT said: "There needs to be more information sharing between the public and private sector to counter these threats in terms of sharing what has worked and rolling it out across all networks."

Currently, the information sharing between the two sectors is almost non-existent and more needs to be done in aiding the information flow to counter cyber attacks like Stuxnet which damaged one of Iran's nuclear installations last month.

"In any large company it is important that all employees have a basic understanding of cyber security threats and information security. Mandatory training and information exercises are currently taking place and I don't think it's such a stretch to have cyber security exercises, just like fire training."

Yesterday new research from the UK's Cyber Security Research Institute stated that infrastructure in both the UK and US is at risk of a cyber attack like Stuxnet and it would be the utilities companies such as water, gas and electricity that is most at risk in these circumstances.

To find out more about the critical threat of cyber threats and how to mitigate against them, Defence IQ's Cyber Security conference will take place in Brussels in June and address the needs of the public and private sectors in countries across the world in making their networks more resilient.
