AccuQuilt announced Candace Door of Sidney, Neb., as the grand prize winner of the Second Annual Barn Quilt Design Contest.

May 11, 2011 - PRLog -- (FREMONT, Neb.,) – AccuQuilt, the leader in fabric cutting solutions for quilting and fabric crafts, announced Candace Door of Sidney, Neb., as the grand prize winner of the Second Annual Barn Quilt Design Contest.

AccuQuilt prides itself on being active in the quilting community and the Second Annual Barn Quilt Contest was just another way to display their quilting pride. The contest inspired quilters from all over the U.S. to submit over 600 stunning quilt block designs. For her grand prize design, Candace will receive a $1,000 AccuQuilt shopping spree along with an all expenses paid trip to Fremont, Neb., for her and a guest to attend the June 10, 2011 Barn Quilt Unveiling Event. Her design will be displayed as a 17’ x 17’ block on the AccuQuilt headquarters and will be unveiled at the event.

“We are proud of our family run Nebraska company so when we found out Candace was from Sidney we were excited to see a Nebraskan win our national contest,” said Steve Nabity, AccuQuilt CEO. Candace started quilting over 30 years ago and describes herself as a “pretty ordinary part-time quilter” but she’s had a few surprises as of late. “I like to come up with original ideas/patterns and have recently had success with the ‘electronic’ version of quilts,” said Candace Door. Other than winning AccuQuilt’s Second Annual Barn Quilt Contest, Door also was one of the 12 finalists in the Rose of Sharon Block Challenge in May 2010.

Second place winner, Deonn Stott of Heber Valley, Utah will also have her design displayed on the offices as a 6’ x 6’ block and receive a $250 gift certificate. Yolanda Fundora of Chatham, N.J., earned a $150 AccuQuilt gift certificate for her third place design.

The contest began March 12 and ran through April 10. The blocks were narrowed down by AccuQuilt management to the Top 100 and then AccuQuilt fans voted on accuquilt.com from April 11-18 for their favorites. Over 10,000 votes were placed during the week long voting period. The first place barn quilt design was chosen by a panel of quilting icons: Eleanor Burns, Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson; AccuQuilt management and votes from AccuQuilt fans. The second and third place winners were chosen by votes from fans. Winners were announced at the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Show & Contest in Paducah, Ky., April 28. The winning designs can be found at http://www.accuquilt.com/barnquilt.
