May 10, 2011 - PRLog -- NEWARK, N.J. – To welcome Nobel Laureates, His Holiness, the XIVth Dalai Lama, Dr. Shirin Ebadi, and Jody Williams for the Newark Peace Education Summit, the Barat Foundation and the Newark Interfaith Coalition for Hope and Peace will host the inaugural unveiling of the community oriented, PEACE mural on May 12, 2011. The mural will be the largest community-based public artwork in the history of the City of Newark, NJ, and will placed on the prominent Broad Street façade of the Integrity House.

"We're setting a new standard for public art in the city, with our partner, the Newark Interfaith Coalition for Hope and Peace,” says Chandri Barat, Executive Director of the Barat Foundation. “For the Barat Foundation, the PEACE Mural, Support and Protect Our Children, represents our goal of promoting art in the public sphere through community collaboration, empowering hundreds of Newark youth to be direct participants in the renaissance of our city.”

The 50ft x 35ft PEACE mural was completed over the course of 45 days and was created in alignment with the core values of the Barat Foundation, Newark Peace Summit and the Newark Interfaith Coalition for Hope and Peace. Over 500 Newark youth, and numerous volunteers from within the community worked together with the mural's designer, Dan Fenelon, mural facilitator Sue Daly, and a team of artists in residence provided by the Barat Foundation to complete the PEACE mural.

This is the first mural under the “Messages through Murals” initiative with the Barat Foundation and the Newark Interfaith Coalition for Hope and Peace.
