May 10, 2011 - PRLog -- Hue is a beautiful city in the central region of Vietnam with many recognized cultural heritages. It is the ancient capital city of Vietnam under Nguyen Dynasty. To this day, there are still a lot of remaining historical vestiges in the city.

The city is located by the bank of Perfume River with palace relics on the Northern bank and Nguyen Kings’ tombs on the Southern bank. With 11 kilometers length, the relics were constructed as arc defensive ramparts in the ancient time. In addition, there are more than 100 architectural works reflecting the royal life under Nguyen’s reign.

Among the kings’ tombs here, there are four most famous ones that clearly expressed the kings’ personal tastes, views and personalities. They are the majestic tomb of Gia Long, the imposing tomb of Minh Mang, the poetic tomb of Tu Duc and the magnificent tomb of Khai Dinh.

Besides the historical and architectural value, Hue city (http://vietnamhotels.net/travelguide/hue/) represents a religious value as well. The city is an important center of Buddhism with tens of 300-year-old pagodas and hundreds of others built in the early century. One more attraction in Hue is the refined royal music, which has been recognized by UNESCO as world’s cultural heritage.

When visiting Hue, tourists couldn’t afford to miss its many traditional cuisines and delicacies that carry the unique flavor of the city and of Vietnam in general. Below are some famous delicacies in Hue:

Flour based dishes are served as a kind of snack for tourists during the day with many different types and flavors such as:

“Banh Khoai”: a crepe with a savory filling accompanied by salad and a peanut-based sauce
“Banh La Cha Tom”: soft pastry wrapped in leaves with meat, shrimp and eggs
“Banh Hot Thit Quay”: roast pork in pastry
“Banh Bot Loc Boc Tom Thit”: rice pastry containing shrimp and meat
“Bun Tuan”: noodles with stir-fried beef or boiled pork with fermented ‘nem’ fish sauce
“Bun Bo Gio Heo”: noodles with beef and pork

Another tasty delicacy in Hue is its dessert dishes with all variations of “che” (sweet soup) such as:

“Che Dau Van”: sweet French bean soup
“Che Dau Ngu”: sweet bean soup
“Che Hot Sen Boc Nhan”: sweet lotus seeds and longan soup
“Che Bot Loc Boc Thit Quay”: sweet rice and roast pork soup

As an important Buddhism center in Vietnam, Hue is also famous for its vegetarian food. Instead of health or ethical concerns as in Western vegetarian food, these foods in Hue are aimed to replicate the taste of non-vegetarian dishes such as roast pork, chicken salad, beefsteak, grilled meat, chicken and so on. This is in fact a very fascinating concept especially for foreign vegetarians coming to this city.

Tourists can also join different cooking classes while visiting Hue. Most of hotels in Hue (http://vietnamhotels.net/hue/) offer these cooking classes for their guest. If not, tourists can always have the options of visiting a travel agent website and book for one.
