Community groups, charities and social enterprises throughout West Cornwall are being offered an opportunity to get together and learn some new skills at a free event being staged by Penwith Community Development Trust in Penzance next month.
The Charity Fair takes place at St John’s Hall on 18 May from 10.00am and 4.00pm, and PCDT Funding Advisor Suzy Messenger is inviting local organisations to come along to refresh their fundraising skills, learn more about Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, attend workshops at the Learning Zone on topics such as ‘How to write an effective fundraising letter’ – and a whole lot more. And complementary therapists will be on hand to offer free shoulder massages, a great way to relieve stress.
The aim of these taster sessions is to enable groups to learn how to better their appeal to funders and the wider community. Suzy said: “The kind folk of Cornwall give so much to our communities, and this free event aims to give them some new learning and fresh inspiration. It is also an important opportunity to network and explore opportunities for funding, by sharing best practice and how we can work together to serve our communities”
She added: “Many organisations are experiencing funding cuts and a reduction in overall charitable giving. At the Charity Fair, some great professionals will be sharing their Top 10 skills for sustaining, maintaining or developing your service provision.
“The event gives groups the opportunity to do something proactive to make a difference. There will be delicious tea and cakes on offer from the kind ladies of the WI, and everybody is welcome to join us.”
PCDT Chief Executive Sue Guard said: “The Charity Fair is an exciting new development for our Communities department, which we hope will become an annual event. It will provide an opportunity to celebrate the fantastic work being carried out in our communities by local groups and organisations.”
