May 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Meet Mel Bandler and Julia Pearlstein-Levy, the creative Montclair High School seniors whose passion for helping others is connecting professional and student artists alike for their upcoming art show / fundraiser.

Mel and Julia co founded the Girls Learn International club at Montclair High School [MHS]. It was a bumpy road to formation. GLI initially turned down their application to start the chapter due to lack of sufficient resources to match MHS GLI with a partner school, which would be their fundraising beneficiary.  Mel and Julia campaigned and pursued their passion; GLI couldn't turn them down!  Mel and Julia have exceeded fundraising expectations for the chapter to date. Last year they held a beautiful, successful educational event and fundraiser at a local cafe.

This year they have opted to host an art show/fundraiser. Mel and Julia secured one of the best galleries in Montclair, the Brassworks Gallery.

They began their methodical, passionate planning and production and the results are impressive. They have over 50 submissions from local and professional artists, as well as students. An entire art class at Mt Hebron School in Montclair created artworks! Many of the students have offered to donate the proceeds of any sale of their work to benefit GLI.

The exhibit’s theme is An Artist's Response to the Girl Effect Video and/or the incorporation of elements of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The goal is to raise awareness about the importance of education and human rights and involve the local community. Funds will be raised by charging an admission fee to view the show, though it is suggested and not required. Some of the artwork is on sale with a portion of the fees going towards the fundraising.

The Montclair Artist Studio Tour has helped promote the event and is including it in their studio tour, which happens to fall in the same week as the exhibit.
