Millionth Consumer Uses Online Long-Term Care Insurance Cost Comparison

The millionth consumer has sought long-term care insurance costs and information online.

May 6, 2011 - PRLog -- An increasing number of consumers are purchasing long-term care insurance according to a report issued by the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, the national trade organization.

In 2010, approximately 400,000 Americans purchased coverage on an individual basis or a policy offered through their employer.  "This is an increase over the past few years," acknowledges Jesse Slome, the organization's executive director.  "Millions of aging baby boomers understand the importance of protecting their retirement savings."

According to the Association an increasing number of consumers are seeking information online.  The organization that maintains the nation's largest online long-term care insurance informational resource center, offers consumers the ability to locate a local professional or seek a cost comparison.

The one-millionth individual has sought information an important milestone Slome notes.  "Consumers are most concerned with learning about long-term care planning and seeking cost comparisons," he explains.  The cost for virtually identical long-term care insurance policies can vary by between 20-and-40-percent.  "This is certainly a reason an increasing number of consumers are seeking cost comparisons," Slome adds.

The majority of individuals seeking online long-term care insurance cost comparisons are between ages 55 and 67 according to the organization's data.  "This is proof that there is increased awareness of the need to health qualify for this protection," Slome explains.  "Five or six years ago, you would get inquiries from 80 year olds, but few insurers will offer coverage to individuals at that age."

The Association's Long-Term Care Insurance Consumer Resource Center has received several recognitions as the best source of information and cost comparisons.  The Center offers the current tax deductibility levels as well as current ratings for leading long-term care insurers.  It can be accessed at http://www.aaltci.org/long-term-care-insurance/ or by calling the organization at (818) 597-3227.
