PRLog - May 6, 2011 - A new dark novel full of creatures, fear and laughter written by award winning author Laurie Bowler.
Reviews: (as seen on amazon.com)
This is the sixth book I have read from this author and is the best yet. I wasn't sure this would be able to improve on the already impressive books I have read previously, but boy am I glad to be proven wrong.
This story is a bit of a departure for the author from her previous books in that the lead character, Patty, is not a vampire, but instead is a witch.
The story is read from the perspective of Patty and follows her as she tries to uncover the truth behind the death of her mentor Matace. As the story progresses she learns greater truths about herself and her purpose in the world of witches and immortals and finds herself fighting to protect the worlds of both mortals and immortals.
Again the author's descriptive powers come to the fore, imaginative and detailed descriptions that paint the scenes into your mind leaving you immersed in this wonderfully imaginative world. The character's emotions are again portrayed to a very high standard and leave you willing them to succeed. The humour in places does well to give a welcome break in the tension.
The imagination of this story stands head and shoulders above the author's previous books with a great variety of different demons, spells and parallel worlds. This is definitly this author's finest work to date and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it from start to finish.
This is a must read.

Vampires anyone? Laurie Bowler has taken the genre to a whole new level with her body of work. She is definitely a busy gal with her newest full length novel, The Depths of Darkness. She also has her new series Across the City which has three installments in publication already: The Beginning, The Battle Begins, and Carnage with a fourth on the way, The Alliance. Enough witty banter, what is between the virtual covers on this one?
"Award winning author Laurie Bowler adds another full length novel to her impressive library of novels and digital short story series with The Depths of Darkness. This novel has it all: vampires, romance and enough paranormal vision from an author that has become a force in the Vampire/Paranormal genre. Feel free to download these 100,000 words of intensity; sink your fangs into it and join her coven."
One thing I found out about this type of writing: the paranormal, vampire type thing, is that there are no rules, everything goes and what we are pretty much left with is the imagination of the author to create these new worlds, beings and character traits. Laurie Bowlers is quite fertile. The world she creates for us in Darkness is a place that is eerie, dark and inhabited by some pretty interesting creatures or beings. Take your choice as to what you may call them; I am going with creatures. If it walks and talks like a creature, can rip my neck out, and dismember me, then it is a creature. The quality of the read is apparent right from the get go, and the journey into Bowler's new found world is swift and wrought with action, suspense and drama.
Just as a side note, I would like to make the suggestion that you join The Novel Spot as I have. Laurie has her own discussion group there, as do many other authors, and she would love to hear from you. Just go to my blog, Gelati's Scoop, the button for it is right there below my Twitter feed, press it and join. You will have some serious fun after that.

Vampires, witches and creepy things, oh my! They're all in Laurie Bowler's latest novel, The Depths of Darkness. Scary at times, fun and intense all the time, I highly recommend this novel. And now that I have discovered Ms. Bowler, it's time to read the gazillion other books she's written.
