MAT May paper pencil test: 200 Qs of Moderate Difficulty

The paper followed its usual format of 200 questions, 40 in each of the five sections. The duration of the test was 150 minutes.

PRLog (Press Release) - May 6, 2011 - MAT May 2011, the second MAT exam of the year, conducted by AIMA held the paper pencil based test on Sunday, May 1, 2011. The computer based exam of MAT May will be held from Saturday, 7 May 2011.

The paper followed its usual format of 200 questions, 40 in each of the five sections. The duration of the test was 150 minutes. The difficulty level of the paper was moderate. In each section, there were some questions which were easy, making the paper high scoring.
Let us have a look at the analysis of the different sections of the paper:
Intelligence and Critical Reasoning
The difficulty level of the paper was easy to moderate. The questions were from the topics Blood Relations, Stacks, Coding, Direction Sense, Mathematical Missing Terms, Assertion & Reason, Inferential Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning, Courses of action, Statement Conclusion and Sitting Arrangement. According to test prep institute Career Launcher, about 28 questions could have been attempted.
Mathematical Skills
The difficulty level of this section was moderate to tough. The most prominent area in this section was Arithmetic. There were no questions from Geometry, Algebra, Averages, Number System and Set Theory. There was only one question from Permutation & Combination and Probability. Broadly, the questions were from Percentages, Ratio & Proportion, Trigonometry, Time Speed Distance, Time and Work, Pipes and Cisterns, Mixtures & Allegations, Mensuration, Partnership, Permutation and Combination and Probability.
Data Analysis & Sufficiency
This section was easy to moderate in nature. The question types were Table and Multiple Line Graph, Bar Graph, Pie Chart, Caselet, Data Sufficiency and Quantitative Comparison.
Language Comprehension
The Language Comprehension section was easy in nature. The number of passages was five. There were four questions per passage. The passages were of easy to moderate difficulty level. One among them was difficult compared to others. There were 20 questions in the English Usage section also. The English Usage questions were from Para Jumbles, Error Detection, Appropriate way of writing, Catching the essence of the passage, Vocabulary and Contextual Vocabulary.
General Awareness
The questions were based on Current Affairs and factual questions. According to Career Launcher, in 10 minutes, a student could attempt 20 questions with 80 per cent accuracy.
