By: Ashleigh Slattery Innovative test-drive event will yield much-needed money for Athletic Department Union, MO – Barreth Ford Center is bringing Ford Motor Company’s innovative Drive One 4 UR School program to the Union community in an effort to raise up to $6,000 for Union High School. For every person who test-drives a Ford vehicle at Union High School on May 7, Barreth Ford Center and Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to Union High School. The funds will go towards expenses in the athletic department. “Having an event to raise money to support Union High School’s athletic department is a pleasure to all of us at Barreth Ford Center. Keeping extracurricular activities available to students is important, that is why we want to help raise funds for these programs,” said Jon McKean of Barreth Ford Center. “This is an excellent opportunity to introduce the community to our latest vehicles and the innovative safety technologies Ford has to offer through a fun test drive.” The event, which will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., will feature the Ford Explorer, Focus, Fiesta, Edge, F-150 and other available models. Since the start of Ford’s Drive One 4 UR School program in 2007, more than 275,000 test-drives at more than 1,500 events have generated over $5 million in donations for high schools nationwide. Locally, Barreth Ford Center previously participated in Ford’s Drive One 4 UR School program and raised over $7,400. In addition to raising much-needed revenue for high school extracurricular activities, the program gives participants the chance to experience Ford Motor Company’s exciting new vehicles and leading safety technologies, including: • MyKey™ • SYNC®, the fully integrated, in-vehicle voice-activated communications and entertainment system, updated with a “Do Not Disturb” button to block incoming calls and text messages and improved text message read-back capabilities so drivers can keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel; • Blind Spot Information System (BLIS™) with cross traffic alert, which uses radar to check the blind spot and helps notify the driver of approaching traffic when backing out of a parking spot; and, • Active Park Assist, a technology that helps drivers position the vehicle for parallel parking and then steer it into a parking spot without touching the steering wheel. • SmartGauge™ The 2012 Ford Focus, the company’s most significant global nameplate, delivers smart features, spirited performance and 40 mpg fuel economy packaged in modern, European-inspired design finishes. The all-new Focus Titanium model promises to appeal to drivers shifting from larger, premium vehicles looking for sporty handling; while the high-performance Focus ST with turbocharged, direct-injected EcoBoost™ power will get enthusiasts' hearts racing. To participate, please visit Union High School between 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. on May 7. Participants must be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license. There is a limit of one test-drive per household.
