May 5, 2011 - PRLog -- The original artwork of contemporary artist Lynn Casper of Waukesha will be featured throughout the Channel 10 Great TV Auction which runs now through May 7. The 2011 auction marks the third year Casper has been selected to participate in the event as a featured artist.

The Channel 10 Auction is a nine-day, on-air fund-raising event hosted annually by MPTV Friends to support Milwaukee Public Television. Each year, individuals, businesses and local artists donate more than 18,000 items. Viewers across southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois bid for items by telephone and online. Online bids can be placed by visiting greattvauction.com and clicking on the preview & bid button. The auction will also be streamed live at mptv.org.

The auction’s 2011 goal is to raise more than $1 million for Milwaukee Public Television. By reaching its goal, the auction will fund approximately 10 minutes of every hour of programming for shows such as “NOVA,” “Sesame Street” and “Great Performances.”

Casper is a contemporary artist widely known for her paintings of historic sites, streetscapes and structures in southeastern Wisconsin, as well as her contemporary depictions of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Casper is a fifth-generation Wisconsinite and an art history graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She counts Barry Alvarez, former head coach of the Badger football team and current athletic director, and Pat Richter, former UW athletic director, as fans of her university series.

For the auction, Casper has created “Take the Field,” which captures the excitement and energy of a Wisconsin Badgers’ football game as Coach Bret Bielema leads his team onto the field. The team is flanked by the famed UW marching band, led by Mike Leckrone, as well as Bucky Badger. Casper’s piece features many brilliant game-day details, including the green turf of the field, a clear blue September sky overhead, red Wisconsin uniforms and brightly polished band instruments. The massive scoreboard with its digital “Motion W” provides a backdrop for this detailed, action-packed composition.

“The original painting was created on a sand textured surface,” explains Casper. “I began with watercolor in selected areas and then applied colored pencil. Layering the pencil makes for rich colors and nuanced shading. Where a smoother texture was desired, I burnished the surface. Finally, I added highlights in pastel to enhance such things as the metallic reflections of the band instruments and the bright sunlight on helmets and uniforms.”

The original, along with 100 artist-signed and numbered prints, will be available for bidding. A limited number of the prints will be signed by Coach Bielema and band director Mike Leckrone, as well as Casper.

In addition to Casper, artwork from five other featured artists who have created pieces for this year’s Channel 10 Great TV Auction will be available for bid during the live televised event that airs through May 7 on Channel 10.

The work of Jean Crane of Grafton, Maribeth Devine of West Allis, Terrill Knaack of Beaver Dam, George Kovach of Abilene, Texas and Andy Goralski of Oconomowoc will be showcased.
