Cambridge Offers Comprehensive Display of Architectural Mesh Systems at AIA 2011

May 5, 2011 - PRLog -- CAMBRIDGE, MD… Cambridge Architectural will be featuring its latest custom and pre-engineered products and their capabilities in a walk-through booth at the AIA 2011 National Convention and Design Exhibition in New Orleans, LA, May 12-14.

The exhibit will showcase all of Cambridge’s architectural mesh systems. Four popular systems will be displayed on each of the booth’s corners, while additional systems, application types and information will be displayed on the center column. Cambridge will provide an immersive environment that will show – on a grand scale – what mesh can do, and all of the ways that it has been used in the most complex and demanding environments. Additionally, Cambridge’s latest and most successful projects will be shown as part of a video presentation integrated into the booth’s design.

This year, special attention will be paid to Cambridge’s architectural mesh ceiling systems, which grew in popularity in 2010, including two new projects in New Orleans, LA and Baton Rouge, LA – both near the site of AIA 2011. In New Orleans, Cambridge developed a curved ceiling system for the National World War II Museum, and in Baton Rouge, Cambridge built a draped ceiling system for the LSU Student Union Theater. On the Expo floor, mesh will be draped and held in tension above booth visitors to simulate similar ceiling applications.

“We’re excited for the AIA show this year not only because we’ve brought back our more interactive walk-through booth, but also because two of our recently-completed projects are located nearby,” explains Heather Collins, director of marketing for Cambridge Architectural.  “We’re proud of our latest work in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, and it seems fitting that we’re in the area to share our experience.”

Cambridge currently offers three different kinds of architectural mesh ceiling systems. The tensioned ceiling system uses metal fabric to create an extended surface that can be specified for any requested length, even hundreds of feet, while remaining completely flat. The steel framework ceiling system allows mesh to create almost any shape or design by attaching to a custom steel framework. Finally, the draped ceiling system uses a combination of tension attachment hardware and additional steel components to anchor the mesh panels at an angle for draping.

In addition to displaying its mesh products and systems at AIA 2011, Cambridge will also be hosting a special exhibitor educational session. Cambridge’s Manager of Architectural Business Development, Ann Smith, will be on-site to present one of the company’s continuing education courses, “Architectural Mesh Systems: Design Freedom and Functionality.” The presentation will take place on the show floor in Classroom B on Friday, May 13th from 3:00-4:00 p.m.

AIA’s 2011 National Convention and Design Exhibition, Regional Design Revolution: Ecology Matters, focuses on transforming inhabited regions throughout the world into symbiotic components of the larger environment. In a city like New Orleans, the importance of regional design and the challenges associated with it cannot be overstated.
