Follow on Google News | Verizon Foundation Completes Shoot for Morning Show ‘The Balancing Act’ Airing on Lifetime TV"Appearing on The Balancing Act is a great opportunity to reach out to parents and show them how to keep their children actively learning, whether it’s during the school year or throughout the summer months.”
By: O2 Media, Inc. Limor Windt O2 Media, Inc. limor@o2mediainc.com (954) 691-1102 The Verizon Foundation, creators of the free, interactive educational website Thinkfinity.org, recently completed their shoot for O2 Media’s hit morning TV show “The Balancing Act.” The segment, which features Rose Stuckey-Kirk, President of the Verizon Foundation, and Katrina Allen, Program director at St. Phillips Academy in Newark, NJ, will air in May on Lifetime Television. Stuckey- Verizon introduced the website in 2007 to help develop the next generation of leaders, and has continued to build upon that foundation by regularly adding new resources through the years. Features include lesson plans, activities, worksheets, reference materials, podcasts, and interactive games that entice kids to learn. Thinkfinity content is created by some of the nation’s top educational organizations, including National Geographic, ReadWriteThink and the JFK Center for the performing arts. The Verizon Foundation provides all of the funding for these efforts. “There’s something for everyone on Thinkfinity,” Easy access to educational resources has become a valuable tool in the nation’s classrooms as budgets are slashed and teachers struggle to engage students. The website has also proven to be an important asset to educators who need to teach difficult concepts or find interdisciplinary connections that might go outside of their expertise. Additionally, parents and teachers can now share the same materials at home and in the classroom to reinforce student learning and development. “Thinkfinity provides instant, actionable support,” Allen says. “Furthermore, education is changing. Technology is becoming increasingly present in the classroom and most teachers haven’t been exposed to formal instruction as to how to integrate it. Thinkfinity provides free webinars that give teachers formal instruction and actionable suggestions to help them see where they can weave technology into their curriculum.” For more information, go to http://www.thinkfinity.org.
