May 4, 2011 - PRLog -- The world record which previously stood at 68 people was smashed by over 191 adults that were at the Burnham-on-Sea Rugby Club for the opening of Gullivers’ annual two-day mini and junior rugby festival.

The likely record-breaking scrum was organised to raise awareness for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and was the brainchild of Christine Piper, a member of Burnham-on-Sea Rugby Club, who works for the charity.

Neil Rayer, General Manager of Gullivers’ Playing Tours and Festivals said: “We were delighted to help Breakthrough Breast Cancer create the world’s largest rugby scrum at our end of season Burnham-on-Sea Festival. It’s all part of the fantastic camaraderie enjoyed by the teams and their families at our popular May Day Bank Holiday rugby weekend, which we have been organising here for 13 years.”

The Guinness Book of Records is currently assessing footage of the scrum to determine whether or not it will go down in their official records, but with nearly three times more people than the original record, it’s sure to be one for the books.

As well as breaking records, those who attended the annual ruby festival wore pink wrist bands to represent Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
