The Shin Dojo Director, Robert M. Rivers (6th Dan, Shihan - USA Honbucho, ISKU) is a Master Instructor with License (Shihan), Karatedo International Seishinkai Karate Union Dai Nippon Butokukai. He is also Shito Ryu Karate- Renshi, 6th Dan and Mugai Ryu Iaihyodo- 5th Dan, Okuirisho as well as Sogo Kempojutsu, 4th Dan; Jujutsu, 3rd Dan; Tanjojutsu, 1st Dan and Shihan Rivers holds a 5th degree black belt or higher from 3 Japan-based organizations.
This is rarely seen outside of Japan. He has black belt grades in 8 different arts spanning 20 years of constant training. He has teaching licenses from Japan. He has received commendations from the US Senate, US House of Representatives, the Virginia Senate, and the Romanian Ministry of Sport as a member of the World Champion USA Kempo Karate team in 2003 at the IKF World Championships in Bucharest, Romania. A former nationally ranked competitor, he is now a martial arts historian, sought after seminar teacher and lecturer, dojo leader, and mentor.
He has studied the Shito Ryu, Motobu Ryu, Shorin Ryu, and Goju Ryu Karate methods extensively for many years. Sensei Rivers tries to take the mystery out of classical training and provide classes to the local area that transcend a hobby or day care. Just a few minutes with Sensei will convince anyone that martial arts are indeed a way of life.
During the day, in an altogether different world, Sensei Rivers is an engineer with a consultant firm in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Mixed Sword Art | Edged Weaponry enthusiasts of both East and West do not want to miss Sensei Rob Rivers embu because he is a true *STAR* of swordsmanship.
Join the 2011 Swordfest in Alexandria Virginia (15 South Quaker Lane, Alexandria, VA) on the 13th through the 15th of May. Our itinerary is included below. These are "indoor events." Saturday 14 May is FREE - all demonstrations and exhibits take place on Saturday. The rock stars of the Mixed Sword Arts and Edged Weaponry from the East | West will be featured throughout Saturday's demos. Friday 13 May and Sunday 15 May are training sessions and while they are filling up quickly - some seats remain available. Observational seating at reduced fees will be available at the door. So don't miss this, our Sixth Annual event.
