Follow on Google News | Stratford Hall Lends Preservation Expertise to Gloucester VolunteersAdventures in Preservation and The Fairfield Foundation announce the selection of Phil Mark, Director of Preservation at Stratford Hall, to lead volunteers in hands-on preservation work at the historic Edge Hill Texaco Service Station.
Phil Mark has a degree in Building Preservation/ During the week of May 22-28, volunteers will come from around the U.S. to receive training in in-place window restoration techniques from Phil Mark. Under his guidance this stage of the building preservation will be completed. In addition, Dylan Eastman, LEED AP of Courthouse Construction, Inc., and a member of the James River Green Building Council, will lead participants in a discussion of approaches to energy efficiency upgrades and lighting for historic buildings. Local community members are invited to join the project and are asked to pay a fee of $300 covering materials, lunches, insurance, and instruction. Various packages are available for those who are traveling from out of town and need lodging. All volunteers are invited to extend their stay in Gloucester through Memorial Day weekend and explore the history of the region with an exclusive behind the scenes tour of Colonial Williamsburg’ Adventures in Preservation is a non-profit organization that supports community-based heritage preservation projects. Their one- and two-week hands-on volunteer vacations give participants the opportunity to travel, learn about historic preservation, and help renew a community.
