May 3, 2011 - PRLog -- In an April 2011 survey*, 92% of participating Maui Families expressed their need for an affordable and creative summer program for their kids.  To address this need for our community, WooHawaii Tutoring has joined forces with some of Maui’s finest artists and musicians to offer the Maui Summer Art and Music Lesson program.

From May 30th, 2011 thru July 29th, 2011, affordable art and music lessons will be offered at   the working, artist studios located around Maui.  Art and/or music lessons start as low as $56 per week making them affordable for Maui families.

Thomas Beran, the academic director of WooHawaii explains, “As the father of 4 young children on Maui, I personally feel the need for more summer programs for our Maui kids”.  “During summer break, parents often worry about kids having too much free time and getting into mischief.”  “These summer art and music lessons not only offer parents an affordable summer option, but they also give kids a much needed way to express themselves in a fun, educational environment and to use their excess energy in a productive way, while learning valuable skills from some of Maui’s finest artists and musicians.”

Renowned local sculptor and painter, Kim Mosley decided to dedicate her summer to this program based on her own personal experiences, “Many of my friends with local kids and teens have been telling me all year how worried they are about the lack of legitimate and safe activities for their Keiki and they asked me if I would be willing to give some summer art classes.” “I realized that this was a great opportunity to give back to my Maui Ohana that has been so good to me.”

Teri Garrison, a world famous, local, musician, vocalist and music teacher and also the single mother of a 16 year old son had her own personal reasons for joining this summer program as an instructor, “As a Mother, I searched for creative outlets for my son for this summer and the options were limited, restrictive and too expensive for me.”  “I have taught music to kids for many years and I was excited when I learned about the WooHawaii Summer Art and Music Program.”  “This program is flexible, affordable and an excellent way to appropriately channel the creative abilities and aspirations of our kids.” “ I am proud to be a part of it.”
